Day 4 - Saturday
Shoes, shoes, and more shoes

We (or at least two of us) decided to visit the shoe shopping
street with about 30 shoe stores in one street. I guess I should
have expected that travelling with two women! 428 pairs later we
returned to the Hotel to meet with Amanda who lives a couple of hours
away in Albany. Again we went walking through the city, visiting
China Town, Washington park, watching a sword swallower, having lunch in the funky
Jaffa Cafe, and finally we went to Nick's Burger Joint for an
authentic New York dining experience (and some of the best burgers
that I have ever eaten!)

Day 5 - Sunday
Men honour your women

We along with a whole bunch of other people waited for an Easter
Parade on 5th Ave., that never really happened. So after getting some
breakfast we took the metro to Harlem. We walked by a church and were
invited to join the service. We felt a bit nervous as everyone was
very dressed up and mostly African-American, but they welcomed us and
were very friendly. The service turned out to be similar to a southern
style baptist revival church. Bishop Omega Shelton of the Church of
the Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith gave a very charismatic,
funny, and thought-provoking sermon. The singing was fantastic, and
overall a great experience.
That evening we went to Tex-Mex restaurant in the village and had lots
of great food and huge margaritas.

Day 6 - Monday
Doing the tourist thing

Sunny again we set off early to go see the sites. We went down to
Battery Park and took the ferry to Liberty Island. We waited about
two hours to climb up to the top of the status. It took a while to
get up the winding staircase, and when you get to the crown it is a
bit disappointing. Never-the-less is was fun to see it. When we came
out there was a sign 3 hours from this point and the line was
much past that - good thing we came early.
Next we continued on the ferry to the Ellis island which used to be the
immigration center at early part of the century. It has been
renovated and now is museum about immigration, the procedures, and the
various ethnic people that came through and eventually formed a large
part of the American population.

We took the ferry back to Manhattan, and then went to the Empire State
Building. After waiting in yet another line, we went to the top.
View was great, and we took the extra elevator to the very top.

Day 7 - Tuesday
It's over already!?

Out last day we got up early, grabbed our rollerblades and headed for
Central Park and spent a few hours skating around the park. We headed
back to our hotel, did some last minute souvenir shopping, packed up
our stuff and headed for the airport. The flight back was pretty
uneventful and before we knew it we were home in Amsterdam again.
