Visit to Kinderdijk and Bruge While Rob was visiting we rented a car and drove to the south to visit the Kinderdijk. It is a series of windmills that were used to pump the water out of the poulder. They were eventually replaced by engines, but during the second world war they were used again because of the shortage of fuel. We drove down to the town of Vlissingen which is the southwestern most point in the Netherlands. From there we took a ferry across to Belgium and drove to Bruge. Had some dinner there and drove back to Amsterdam. 600 kilometers in one day - average for Canadians. (Click the picture to get full size version) |
