Sunday April 30, 1999 Queen's Day Amsterdam Edition

April 30th was Queen's Day in the Netherlands (Koninginnedag) and is a very big deal. In Amsterdam the entire city (and a good portion of the rest of the country) is out to celebrate. All along the sides of the street people have stuff out to sell like a city wide swap meet. There are stages with bands throughout the city, and everywhere throngs of people. The colour to wear is orange, the family name of the royal family in the Netherlands. All the streets in the downtown are blocked from traffic, and it is just a big party.
